Our School Room

Over our summer break, our school room was washed, reorganized, and decorated for another year of heavy use.  The room itself was originally a three season room which the previous owners added a heat source, making it usable all year long.  There are 13 windows and three doors in our homeschool room.  While these are wonderful for fresh air and natural light, it leaves little wall space.  Most of the remaining wall space is lined with bookshelves.

The rest of the wall space is filled with art work.  Sometimes, I use an easel to display a famous piece for study.

Along the walls with windows I have placed a painted dresser which houses craft supplies and my desk (an old typewriter desk from the turn of the century).   No pictures to share of my messy desk as I hold dearly to this thought:

"If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind,
of what, then is an empty desk a sign?"
Albert Einstein

Two usable corners have been designated for music and computer.  The musical instrument corner has an organ, electric drums, guitar, and keyboard.  The other corner houses a computer which does not have internet access.  The children learn to type and navigate programs on it.

The room is long.  A free standing easel/white board and four small tables fit in the floor space.

Since the individual tables do not have drawers, each table has its own wooden box made by my husband.  These help store individual books and notebooks.

  3. The wooden boxes are charming and connect with the nature outside that I see reflected in the bookcases.

    1. Thanks Kim! The lighting is fabulous. The lack of wall space can be problematic, but we make it work.
