Benefits and Potential Pitfalls of Homeschool Blogging

Today, I am sharing a dozen items which I have experienced or observed from reading other people's posts and comments during my two years of blogging.  Most of this time has been spent at These Grace Filled Days, with less than a year here at Homeschooling Just Next Door. {As you can see with that statement, I am no where near an expert, just an observer, folks. Perhaps you have seen or even experienced a few of these, as well?}




Homeschooling and blogging can range from a great mix to detrimental.


The Benefits:
  • creating connections or an online community
  • supporting and encouraging one another
  • sharing ideas for projects, curriculum, methods, and tips
  • reviewing products related to homeschooling
  • receiving freebies and accessing printables
  • giveaways



The Potential Pitfalls:
  • comparing, which leads to discontentment
  • misunderstandings and miscommunication
  • skewing perceptions
  • comments from anonymous critics, or backhanded compliments
  • finding identity in a blog or blogging
  • taking too much time away from time with family

    Great list, Dorie! I especially agree with the connections you can make and the ideas you can gain from others, but also the problems of reading other blogs and comparing yourself!

    Wonder list - I agree with each point. I almost stopped blogging about homeschooling because I was comparing myself so many times. Thankfully I was able to step back and now am really enjoying it again!!

      How I can relate! Sometimes, I look around at what others are doing in their homeschool, and I feel like I need to incorporate all these great ideas instead of doing what works for our family. I am getting better at when to appreciate/like a great idea in general and when to try to include it into our days.
