Two Fun Ways to Incorporate Geography

Lately, my husband has been traveling for work more than is normal for his job.  As he flies or drives to other states, the children like to look on the United States map we hung on the wall.  They trace his route, trying to figure out what he will see along the way.  Also, they like to hear about what is near his destination.

My husband from time to time will bring back a trinket for the children.  Last trip, he returned with a state shaped magnet, perfect for another geography teaching moment.

Another fun way to incorporate geography easily for our family uses the envelopes from our recently received Christmas cards.  We gather the envelopes and a map or globe.  Using the return addresses to find where Cousin J lives, or where Cousin B is stationed.  We can compare distances and time zones as well.
